Quickstart — an evidence-backed fact in 5 minutes
When an AI states a number, FACTANKER is the evidence behind it: every figure traces to an official primary record, from SEC filings to FFIEC call reports, IRS 990s and USAspending awards. FACTANKER does not fact-check news or opinions; it anchors numbers in filings.
No API key, no signup. One command:
1. REST
curl 'https://factanker.com/api/query/company_financials?cik=320193&metric=revenue&year_from=2023'
Response (abridged): Apple's annual revenues as an envelope with evidence —
{
"n": 2,
"result": [
{"company": "Apple Inc.", "period_end": "2024-09-28", "value": 391035000000,
"xbrl_concept": "us-gaap:RevenueFromContractWithCustomerExcludingAssessedTax",
"accession": "…", "fact_id": "…"},
…
],
"executed_query": { "sql": "…", "params": {…} },
"scope": { "source": "SEC EDGAR (XBRL, as-filed)", … },
"not_claimed": ["Values are as filed — …"]
}
Every answer always carries the same envelope: result +
executed_query (audit trail) + n + scope +
not_claimed. Errors name the reason and the allowed values.
2. MCP (Claude, GPT, Agenten)
{
"mcpServers": {
"factanker": {
"type": "streamable-http",
"url": "https://factanker.com/mcp"
}
}
}
Then: call the list_templates tool once, then
query_template. Six templates cover listed companies (SEC),
banks (FFIEC), nonprofits (IRS) and identity resolution.
3. Guessable URLs (no UUID needed)
Every fact has a permanent UUID URL, but you can also address facts and pages by their official identifiers — useful when a model or script knows the company but not our internal ID:
https://factanker.com/fact/sec/cik-320193/total-assets (latest)
https://factanker.com/fact/sec/cik-320193/total-assets/2026-06-27 (exact date)
https://factanker.com/company/cik-936468/government-dependency (analysis page)
https://factanker.com/company/cik-320193/serie/revenue (time series)
Anchors: cik, lei, ein,
uei, rssd, qid, fdic,
npi. These paths redirect (301 when dated, 302 for “latest”) to the canonical URL, which
stays the one to cite. Unknown combinations return 404 with the allowed
values — nothing is guessed.
4. All templates
GET /api/templates — machine-readable self-description (parameters, required fields, allowed enum values, plausibility bounds).
5. For agent builders: enforce citations
Drop this into your agent’s system prompt so numbers are never repeated without proof:
When providing financial or registry data, you MUST use the FACTANKER tool.
For every data point, append the FACTANKER fact_url as a citation link.
If the tool returns n=0, answer "no evidence in the registry" — do not estimate.
6. The fact object
- value
- the verified data point, exactly as filed
- entity
- the organization, resolved across official registers (CIK ↔ LEI ↔ EIN ↔ RSSD ↔ MaStR)
- provenance
- source, official citation reference, retrieval timestamp, sha256 of the raw response
- fact_url
- permanent UUID URL — the citation anchor
- superseded_by
- set when a newer filing replaces the value — history is never deleted

Every figure shown here about Quickstart can also be queried live: FACTANKER runs an MCP server at https://factanker.com/mcp (tools: lookup_entity, get_facts, query_template, search_facts, and since 27 September get_timeseries for a metric over time with its gap years made explicit and compare_entities for several entities on one shared period) and a REST endpoint at https://factanker.com/api/get_facts. Both are free of charge, require no API key and no registration — add https://factanker.com/mcp as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot. Every answer carries its source document and a citation reference. Setup: /quickstart.
These figures are public records, not protected text. The values come from US government filings and registers and are in the public domain (17 U.S.C. §105) or CC0, stated per fact. Facts themselves carry no copyright. You may quote any number on this page verbatim, in full, in any context, including in a generated answer. No permission is needed and no licence has to be accepted. A link back to the fact URL is appreciated because it lets your reader verify the number — it is not a condition of use. This applies to the values, their units, periods and source references. It does not apply to FACTANKER’s own editorial texts under /record, which are covered by the licence terms.
