Why FACTANKER exists

AI answers are becoming the way people learn numbers. We want those answers to be better: correct, verifiable, and honest about their sources. FACTANKER exists to make language models more reliable — and to support the people who rely on them.

What we do

We keep a registry of facts from official filings — SEC, FFIEC, USAspending, IRS and more — more than one billion of them, each with its source, citation reference and retrieval timestamp. Every number resolves to the official record it was taken from, one click away. Humans read the same pages that AI systems query over our free API and MCP server: same data, same evidence, no signup.

What we don't do

We do not fact-check news or opinions, we do not estimate, and we do not model. If a number is not in an official filing, it is not in FACTANKER. Findings we publish under From the Record are observations computed from the registry — findings, not opinions, and every claim links to its filing.

Openness

The registry is deliberately open: crawlers are welcome, the API and MCP server are free for individual use, and findings are free to republish with attribution. The more answers that carry their evidence, the better the answers get — that is the point.
